Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should I pay for your service instead of using a design software myself? There are many reasons! The most important is that only a professional designer can provide the necessary logo files your business will need, especially scalable vector formats like those created in Adobe Illustrator. These are crucial for printing on various items, such as windows, vehicles, clothing, banners, and signage. Mobile apps can’t offer these file types. File formats matter when you need logo products made. We provide formats like JPEG, PNG, PDF, AI, PSD, EPS, and SVG, and can advise on where each should be used since they all have different properties and purposes. Another key factor is file resolution. For good print quality, logos need to be at least 300dpi (dots per inch), but free mobile apps often provide a lower resolution of 96dpi, which results in poor printing quality. Hiring a designer saves you time and hassle when you need quick, personalised advice or specific changes to your logo. We save your files and can make amendments when needed. Plus, we offer transparent watermark versions, and logo variations that fit different needs, like a stacked composition for circular instances or linear composition for across website headers, for example.

I’m on a tiny budget. Should I just use a free design app?You can, but there are some downsides. Free apps often produce low-resolution files that don’t work well for printing and may come with white backgrounds, limiting where/how you can use them. Plus, you won’t have a personally contactable designer to support you when you run into issues. Investing in a designer, even on a small budget, is a smart move for any serious business. It will save you time and headaches in the long run. Professional designers provide the right file formats, resolutions, and creative expertise.
-
How and when do I pay?I’ll send you an invoice once we’ve agreed on availability. You pay via bank transfer. You’ll be booked in the diary as soon as this is paid. Most stand-alone collateral items are payable upfront, while branding packages and website creation allow for split payments (50% to book and 50% upon completion).
-
How long does it take to finish my project? It can vary between 2 weeks and 3 months, depending on the complexity of the job, the item or package you choose, and how quickly you provide feedback on Revisions. (I also have a day job 3 days a week so Rascal Design operates on a part-time basis.) Example 1. You just want a logo on its own: If your brief is straight forward and you’re prompt with feedback, it could be less than 2 weeks. Example 2. You want Premium Branding and Website Creation and you take a few days to respond to Revisions: Expect over 2 months.
-
How does the process work? After enquiring, you’ll receive an invoice. After payment, I’ll send you an electronic brief to complete. I’ll then work on initial ideas based on your brief and send a First Draft for feedback. Together, we’ll refine the design over 2 Revisions. (Meaning the third time you see the file will complete the job.) Once final payment is made, I’ll email you all your master files. You can choose to arrange printing yourself or request quotes from me. I’m not a printing company - just design, but I work with many reliable print suppliers and most of my clients also arrange printing through me after designs are complete.
-
Who are your logo packages most suited to?Most of my clients are start-ups, hobbyists, and small-medium businesses like home bakers, tradesmen, dog walkers, artists, hair/beauty, cafes/restaurants etc. If your project brief seems beyond my scope, I’m happy to recommend other local designers better suited to your needs.
-
Do you offer extra Revisions if I'd like to keep making suggestions?Yes, at a small additional charge per Revision.
-
What software do you use?I use the Adobe Creative Suite, the same professional software as other designers. I may be self-taught, but I offer the same quality high-resolution raster and vector files as industry professionals.
-
I already have a logo but it's poor quality - can you help?Yes, I can enhance logos on a case-by-case basis for a small fee. If you designed it yourself, I can replicate it in optimal quality. If it was done by another designer, I recommend asking them for the edits first.
-
How long until I receive my order?I can be within a few days or up to 2 weeks, it depends on whether I’m just arranging printing or also designing the items. If I’m designing before printing, it will take longer. Printing is outsourced, so third-party supplier timelines are factored into the timeframe. I also have a day job 3 days a week so Rascal Design operates on a part-time basis. It also depends on the complexity of your request. Example 1. You need one item designed: business cards, with a simple design on 1 side. You just want me to design it, email you the PDF file and will arrange printing yourself with a print supplier of your choice. I could fulfill this in a day or two. Example 2. You need multiple items designed then printed: an A3 poster design, a facebook page header, a stand-up banner for events, and a multi-page leaflet with complex content formatting like price lists or menus, and you want me to arrange the printing too. Likely longer than 2 weeks. Example 3. You have your own design for an invitation and just want me to arrange printing. Providing your file is print-ready, I could fulfil this in a day or two.
-
Can you rush my order?I don’t offer rush or priority services. I recommend ordering at least 2 weeks in advance of your required date.
-
Who designs my items - me or you?It can be either! If you need me to design your stationery before printing, I’ll do my best to match the fonts and colours to your existing branding and send you drafts for feedback. If you're designing yourself and providing your own print-ready files and just need me to arrange printing, please refer to my Artwork Guide to ensure your files are suitable as they have to meet a specific criteria.
-
How should I send you my logo if you're designing?I accept PSD, AI, PDF, PNG, and high-resolution JPEG files (minimum 300dpi, preferably 600dpi) via email only: hello@rascal.design. I don’t accept files through social media or messaging apps. I don’t accept screenshots or photos of drawn logos. If your logo isn’t print-ready, I can enhance it for an additional fee.
-
Shipping and Collection of printed itemsMost orders are shipped directly to you from my print supplier. If you’re local to TD1 Galashiels, EH13 Edinburgh, or EH53 East Calder, collection is available - but won’t save on shipping costs as the print supplier’s shipping costs will need to be factored into your cost either way. It just might be more convenient for you to collect if you're near by and don't want to miss a delivery for example. Most clients have their items shipped directly to them from my print supplier. This means I won’t see it in person, however, so please let me know if something’s not right as soon as it arrives.
-
Returns, Cancellations, ExchangesCancellations for all my jobs are only accepted within 24 hours of confirming. After 24 hours, digital designs are non-refundable. If physical items arrive damaged, please send photos straight away for a replacement or appropriate refund of the printing costs.

How does your website service work?My website service is still in its early stages and evolving, but I’m open and transparent about that. I designed this site, and also www.cocoonreiki.co.uk which hopefully gives a sense of my work and capabilities. For now, I offer one fixed package: a basic 4-page, comprehensive website which is desktop and mobile friendly. You'll get a custom domain and business email. Price starts from £900. This includes all website hosting costs for 1 year—you won’t need to worry about sorting that out separately. Here’s how the process works: Some dedicated time together at the point of set up, either in person or a phone call, to gather and agree on technical information. Around an hour should do it. I'll ask you beforehand to prepare all your content ideas before the meeting/call. If you’re a complete start-up, I recommend starting with a Branding Package, as it’s essential to have your visual identity in place before creating your website. Once the site is complete, we will agree on how it will be accessed and maintained moving forward.
